William B. Kirksey attended Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, and held a Juris Doctor degree from Jackson School of Law, and an honorary Masters of Law degree from Mississippi College School of Law. He was admitted to the bar in the States of Mississippi and Georgia. He practiced before all Courts in Mississippi and was admitted to the United States
District Courts in Mississippi, Eastern District of Virginia, Western District of Tennessee, and Southern District of Texas, as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
He had been an Associate Professor at Hinds Junior College, and an Adjunct Professor at Mississippi College School of Law teaching Criminal Trial Practice.
He was a life member of Mississippi Association of Justice, and had received the life time achievement award from Mississippi Association of Justice. He was a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and had been certified as a Criminal Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocates since 1985.
He was rated A.V. Preeminent by Martin Dale Hubble, 1992-2017, had been listed in Best Lawyers in America, 1994-2017, in the field of Criminal Law, featured in Super Lawyers of the Midsouth 2008, 2010, and 2016, voted Best Law firm in America 2013-2017 by Best Lawyers, voted top 10 Lawyer by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorney’s 2016, chosen for Best Law Firm by U.S. News & World Report 2014-2016, Awarded Lawyer of the year in 2014 by Best Lawyers, Memphis Magazine top 50 Lawyers in Mississippi 2012.
He had participated in 38 capital murder cases, and tried numerous criminal cases in Mississippi and other states and has appeared before the Mississippi Supreme Court 50 times.
Mr. William B. Kirksey passed away in May of 2019.
